After so many years of working with battle re-enactors at many an event, We've learned what it takes to make maille that will stand up to the rigors of combat, be it mock or actual. Here at Mystic Tigers we offer armor in two different "Grades". Those being "Combat Grade" (CG) and "Show Grade" (SG). To make the cut to be rated as combat grade, a heavier guage of wire is used to form the links and only steel is used. This results in a stronger shirt that also has a higher weight to it. For those of you that only wish to look great at an event, we offer our show grade armor that while it looks the same as the combat grade is much lighter in weight. There's no sense in wearing fourty pounds of armor all day when you really don't have to. Below you'll find a more exacting description of each of the grades of armor we offer.

COMBAT GRADE: Minimum of 14Ga steel links with a maximum of 7/16 inch inner diameter on the links. Available in galvanized steel as well as mild steel for those that want an authentic look (a.k.a. rust) to their armor. By keeping to links that are 7/16 I.D. or smaller, the strength of the individual links stays higher and the armor is much less likely to have links come out during battle. Inlay is available only in hardened brass as it's the only inlay material we've found that will withstand the stresses of combat.

SHOW GRADE: Much lighter in weight than our combat grade due to it's aluminium construction, our show grade armor is also avaliable in a wide range of colors. Inlaying these items is almost a natural thing to do because of the wide assortment of colors available. Black, red, gold, green, blue, brown, as well as many other colors are available.
